Introduction to Online Checkers

Checkers which is also known as "Straight checkers", "American checkers" or "Draught" is a form of a board game played on an 8x8 squared board with total of sixty four squares.
This board game is usually played by two players. The players are given twelve pieces on each side. These pieces may either black, red or white. The squares of checkers board alternates between black and red.

Checkers is one of the most traditional games in human civilization. It has a history of more than 3 millenniums.
The earliest form of checkers board game was believed to have originated in ancient Egypt. Homer and Plato has mentioned about this game during 1600 BC. It is believed that the French had later modified this game to be played on chess board during the middle ages.
They have made the game more easily accessible to the people. This is regarded as the beginning of the modern checkers board game.

Since then, people around the world have been playing checkers. Checkers possess lot of qualities which make it different and more entertaining than Chess and Bridge.
Most of the people consider Chess and Bridge as boring as well as slow moving. Those games also demands high amount of concentration on players' part. The people who don't like that stressful part often prefer Checkers.

Typically there are two ways to move a piece: A simple move and a jump. Simple move involves moving a piece diagonally forward or backwards if the piece is the king. A jump is a direct move made to the empty square of the opponent.
Please note that many versions of online checkers prohibit jumping backwards.

If a piece moves into the kings' row on the opposing player's side, that piece is said to be "crowned". Becoming a "king" gives the piece the ability to move both backwards and forwards.
The ending of the checkers board game is fascinating as well. A player is said to be won by capturing all the pieces of the opponent or leaving him or her with no legal moves. If none of the players could win the game, the game is considered as draw.
